Support BBBSCBR and the Charlottesville Ten Miler!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge has long been engaged with the local running community.

Mark Lorenzoni served as our former Board Chair and the Lorenzoni Family and Ragged Mountain Running & Walking Shop continue to support our work with gifts of talent, time, and resources. BBBSCBR formerly hosted a run/walk fund and friend raising event with many locals showing up to take to the trail despite the sometimes challenging weather. Diane Rosin Okusa, a member of the Charlottesville Track Club Board of Directors and Volunteer Coordinator for the Charlottesville Ten Miler, has been a Big Sister to Little Sister Kasandra since April 2020. While just a few or many examples, it is reflective of how interconnected the greater Charlottesville community is and how we depend on one another to achieve our collective potential.

BBBSCBR is excited to be a secondary beneficiary of the 50th running of the Charlottesville Ten Miler on Saturday, March 22! The race is a community tradition that has benefited many nonprofits over the years, including us. In turn, we are spreading the word about registration and plan to support the runners on race day.

Whether an avid runner or want to support the race as a virtual participant, there is still time to register.

Recognizing running ten miles isn’t everyone’s thing, there are lots of volunteer opportunities necessary to make the race run smoothly (pun intended!).

BBBSCBR’s goal is to staff the water stop on the Downtown Mall near our office from 6:30-9:45 am. We plan to bring the fun and energy as only our Bigs, Littles, and volunteers can. To get you ready, join us at 6 am for coffee, hot chocolate, and yummies. To sign up, click here. Littles can be registered directly by their parent/guardian or their Big by adding a note in the registration form.

Not a morning person? Check out additional volunteer opportunities in days leading up to the event.

Each runner and volunteer makes difference in the lives of those served by all the nonprofit beneficiaries, including BBBSCBR, so join us on March 22 for some fun and community spirit!
