Celebrating One Year of Mentorship: Big Sister Shevya & Little Sister Azaria’s Pottery Adventure!

This October marks the one year match anniversary of Big Sister Shevya and Little Sister Azaria. It’s always exciting to celebrate the milestones of our Bigs and Littles here at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge.

Over the past year, they’ve shared many fun experiences together, but their recent outing to Lazy Daisy Ceramics in Charlottesville stands out as a special one. This creative adventure, painting pottery, brought smiles and lasting memories for both Shevya and Azaria.

A Creative Day at Lazy Daisy Ceramics

A popular spot for our BBBS matches, Lazy Daisy Ceramics is a local favorite for those looking to paint their own pottery. Big Sister Shevya and Little Sister Azaria chose to paint a cup and a bowl during their visit. Azaria proudly shared how she painted the inside of the bowl herself, while Shevya helped with the lettering on the outside. It was a true team effort!

Big Sister Shevya said, “It was super fun to choose and paint our own pottery, and we can’t wait to pick up our finished pieces in two weeks!”

This pottery-painting activity is just one example of the many ways Bigs and Littles can bond, learn from each other, and create lifelong memories in our mentoring program.

Why Mentoring Matters

Mentoring isn’t just about having fun (although there’s plenty of that too!)—it’s about making a positive impact on young people, impact on self confidence, impact on education and impact on juvenile justice. Big Sister Shevya has been a fantastic mentor for Azaria, helping her develop new skills, encouraging her creativity, and being there as a constant source of guidance.

How to Get Involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge

If you’ve been thinking about becoming a volunteering and want to make a real impact, now is the perfect time to get involved! Our programs are always looking for new mentors in the Charlottesville City, Albemarle County, Nelson County, and Fluvanna County. By signing up to be a Big, you’ll have the opportunity to form a meaningful connection with a Little and engage in fun, enriching activities—whether it’s painting pottery, hiking, or grabbing ice cream downtown.

Together, we can create brighter futures for young people in Charlottesville and beyond.
